Shutters of Mullaperiyar dam opened to 75 cm, 1064 cubic feet of water released

IDUKKI: After the water level in the catchment area crossed the rule curve, three shutters of the Mullaperiyar Dam were opened. The R1, R2 and R3 shutters were opened to 75 cm each. 1064 cubic feet of water are being released from the dam. The water level in the Mullaperiyar dam is 138.35 feet. The three shutters of the dam were opened at around 9 am today. The water level in the dam had risen significantly due to the continuous unusual rain in the catchment area. There is no need to worry as the water level on the banks of the Periyar is low. However, the Idukki district administration has informed that those living on both banks of the river should be extremely cautious.


There are heavy rains in Idukki. Hundreds of houses in Nedumkandam and Kattappana have been flooded. There is also a suspicion of a landslide near Kattappana.Towns like Koottar, Third Camp, Sanyasioda, Mundiyeruma, Thookupalam, Thannimoodu and Kallar are under water. People were rescued from their houses Kumily is submerged in water. The shutters of the Kallar dam have been completely raised.
