PERINTHALMANNA: Six-month-old Imran Mohammad needs the compassionate support of the Malayalees just like how they joined hands to donate Rs 18 crore for the treatment of the one-and-a-half-year-old Muhammed in Kannur Mattool.

Imran is the son of Malappuram Angadippuram native Alunkal Arif and Ramisa Tasni. The family is not even able to dream of Rs 18 crore. Arif's main source of income was the sale of used vehicles. However, this got affected due to the Covid crisis. His elder daughter Diya Fathiya is in good health.

The couple's second child died two days after birth. Imran is their third child. Twenty days after his birth, Imran's left arm became paralyzed. He has been undergoing treatment on the ICU ventilator at the Medical College Maternal and Child Care Center for three months.

The family had submitted a petition to the then Health Minister KK Shailaja asking the government to bear the cost of treatment. The family approached the high court two weeks ago. The High Court yesterday directed the government to form a five-member medical board for the treatment of the child. The petition will be considered again today.

After learning about Imran's condition, Manjalamkuzhi Ali MLA visited the family on Tuesday. The MLA too has come up seeking support for the child's treatment. A decision was taken to form a people's committee under the leadership of the MLA.
