Six more days of incessant showers predicted in Kerala; trees uprooted in capital city

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains continue to wreak havoc across the state. Trees got uprooted in many parts of the district while two giant ones fell on the road in capital city’s Press Club Road and near Pettah.

In Perumpazhuthoor, a tree fell on top of the house, destroying it completely. The Revenue Minister also warned of extreme caution amidst the possibility of landslides, mudslides and flooding.

Monsoon is likely to enter the Kerala coast today. A red alert has been issued in Kannur and Kasaragod districts. There is an orange alert in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts. There is also a yellow alert in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Alappuzha districts.

A red alert has been issued for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts for tomorrow. Heavy rains will continue for six days. Fishing has been banned on the coasts of Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep till the 27th.

Following the heavy rain warning, water activities including boating, kayaking, and rafting, have been banned in tourist areas of Idukki. Night travel has also been banned from 7 pm to 6 am on Monday, due to the prevailing red alert. According to the district administration, disaster management is fully prepared to deal with any emergency.
