THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that some reactionary forces are trying to create division among the people by twisting the idea of nationalism, which is based on secularism, harmony, and coexistence. He said that these forces are raising the cry that criticising and correcting wrong government policies is an act of treason.
According to the Chief Minister, India won its freedom because people from all walks of life joined together in the national movement, setting aside social and communal differences. The country is made up of many regional, linguistic, and community identities.
He said these forces are trying to tarnish the great traditions of the national movement. They are encouraging communal polarisation to distract the public from the real problems the nation is facing. This Independence Day, he said, is also a time to reflect on whether such trends are suitable for a nation with a proud democratic culture.
"We are a people who won freedom through historic struggles. Our democratic culture is rooted in humanity and mutual love. Transforming India into a nation with better living conditions for all is a great responsibility handed to us by the nation’s builders. Drawing strength and lessons from the past, we must create a new future. Let this Independence Day inspire us to build a new India where everyone lives as equals," he said.
