Sreenarayana Guru Open University: 12 undergraduate and 5 PG courses this year

KOLLAM: Sreenarayanaguru Open University has approved a budget of Rs 83,49,00,000 for the financial year 2022-23 with an expected revenue of Rs 90,58,40,000.

The university will start 12 undergraduate courses and 5 postgraduate courses including Philosophy in Sreenarayana Guru Studies this year. Admission will start in August. Undergraduate and postgraduate distance education courses offered by other universities in the State will be submitted to the UGC for approval as part of the launch at the Open University. An amount of `1.50 crore has been set apart for this. The examination of the certificate course for the local body representatives.

Open University will be open soon and the certificate will be issued. Course for Co-operative Representatives, Diploma in Film Production and Certificate Course in Film appreciation will be started this year. An expert committee will be appointed to study the commencement of courses conducted by universities in the country and abroad. Rs 10 lakh has been earmarked for this.

Construction of the university headquarters will begin this year. For this, an attempt is being made to find 10 to 20 acres of land in the city of Kollam. 35 crore for land and 10 crore for the first installment of building has been allotted.

Other provisions

Rs 1 crore for library, Rs 40 lakh for computer center, Rs 1 crore for virtual studio production, Rs 50 lakh for reprographic center and Rs 40 lakh for computerization in the academic block starting at Vellayittambalam.

1.60 crore for the development of regional centers at Thalassery Brennan College, Kozhikode Govt. Arts and Science College, Pattambi SNGS College and Thripunithura Govt College.
