KANNUR: Thajudheen wants to recover the Rs 14 lakh compensation awarded by the High Court from the police officers who framed him in a false case and made his life miserable. A petition will be filed in the Thalassery Civil Court demanding this.
When VK Thajudheen (50), a native of Thalassery, Kannur, returned from Qatar in 2018 for his daughter's wedding, he was arrested by Chakkarakkal SI Biju and his team as an accused in a necklace-snatching case. The High Court had on the 8th ordered a compensation of Rs 14 lakh to him, who was financially and health-wise devastated. It was the High Court that directed Thajudheen to approach the civil court for compensation from the officials.
Thajudheen, who currently lives in Bengaluru, runs his son's laundry shop. His wife and younger son live at his sister's house in Kathirur. Thajudheen has memory loss and difficulty speaking after a stroke. He also had his toe amputated due to diabetes.
'The Stolen Necklace'
After the incident, Thajudheen had written a book titled 'The Stolen Necklace'. The court also considered the book during the trial of the case. Thajudheen said that this book played a major role in proving his innocence. The book was prepared by Shevlin Sebastian.
June 25, which changed his life
Thajudheen returned home on June 25, 2018. His daughter's wedding was on July 8. On the morning of the 11th, while Thajudheen was returning from his sister's house, Chakkarakkal police took him into custody on charges of theft. He was arrested on the charge of snatching a housewife's five-and-a-half sovereign necklace on a scooter. Thajudheen spent 54 days in jail in this case and after getting bail from the High Court, he went to Qatar. However, Thajudheen was jailed there for 23 days because he did not return on time. Although Thajudheen proved his innocence in court, he suffered a loss of Rs. 40 million.
