MALAPPURAM: A street dog that attacked seven including a toddler sleeping on his mother’s shoulder, was found dead on Friday. The incident took place at Puthanangadi in Malappuram at around 5.30 pm on Friday. The dog was found dead in Mannamkulam near Puthanangadi.
The dog attacked a baby lying on his mother’s shoulder and showed its ferocious side to all passersby. Almost seven people, who happened to walk through the backyard near the Puthanangady petrol pump turned victims of the attack. The three-month-old toddler has been admitted to MES hospital while other injured were admitted to Manjeri Medical College. It is indicated that many suffered deep injuries.
Meanwhile, two crore rupees have been allocated in the budget this time for the project to control stray dog attacks. 2 crores have been earmarked for a scheme to effectively implement sterilization of stray dogs by setting up portable ABC (Animal Birth Control) centres. It is estimated that there are three lakh stray dogs in the state. 8656 ABC surgeries were performed till June 2024. There are also rumours about the slow implementation of ABC programs in certain parts of the state.
