KOLLAM: A student has committed suicide in Kollam after the bank authorities issued a foreclosure notice to her house. The deceased has been identified as Sooranad South native Abhirami (18). Abhirami hanged herself after a foreclosure notice was placed in front of her house in connection with loan arrears of Rs 10 lakh taken from Kerala Bank. Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala said that the incident was unfortunate. He also urged the Cooperation Minister to intervene immediately. Abhirami is a second-year student of Sree Ayyappa College, Iramallikkara.
According to the locals, Abhirami's father used to regularly repay the loan arrears. He had repaid one and a half lakh rupees to the bank in March as well. However, the family started to face financial difficulties when Abhirami's mother fell ill. Although the family had approached the bank seeking more time to repay the remaining amount, the bank refused. Later, the bank authorities reached Abhirami's house and placed a board in front of the house showing that the bank had taken over the house and property.
