THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the start of Onam rush, Supplyco has increased the prices of subsidized goods. The prices of rice, pulses and sugar, which are much needed by the people, have been increased. The price of kuruva rice has been increased by Rs 3. It was earlier Rs 30 per kg. The price of matta rice and pachari were also increased by Rs 3.
The price of sambar parippu was earlier Rs 111 and now it is Rs 115. A significant increase is for sugar. Has been increased by Rs 6. Earlier it was Rs 27 per kilo. It is now increased to Rs 33. However, the prices of coconut oil and green gram have come down.
Minister G R Anil said now there is a nominal price increase after seven years. He defined inflation as an adjustment according to the increase in the market price of products. The minister stated that despite the price increase, the price in SupplyCo is still 30 percent lower than the general market. He said the present decision is to retain SupplyCo.
The Onam markets under SupplyCo will start from today. 225 crores have been sanctioned by the government for intervention in the market. 150 crore has been handed over. If earlier we could not get the subsidized goods, now enough goods have arrived.
