THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Vithura native A Anand, a police trainee at the Peroorkada SAP camp, is reported to have spoken with his mother moments before he ended his life. Chandarika, mother of Anand, recalled advising her son to take food and medicines on time. Anand replied that he would do everything right and asked her not to worry about him anymore. Just one hour after the conversation ended, Chandrika received a phone call from the police camp.

The officials asked Anand’s brother to immediately reach the camp. However, the elder brother was not at home, and Chandrika told the officials of her difficulty in coming there alone. The officials then said that Anand would soon return home.

Failing to catch the incongruous warning in the call, Chandrika started preparing Anand’s favourite dishes in the hope that he would soon return home. Anand returned home the same night, though lifeless.

Aravind, the elder brother of Anand, said that he would file a complaint with the chief minister after he raised a mystery in the death. Anand was found hanging from a fan in the barracks on Thursday morning. Two days earlier, the youngster had attempted suicide by cutting his wrists.

Anand was found hanging from a fan by those who returned from training at the ground. The family alleges that mental harassment and caste discrimination by senior officers led Anand to commit suicide.
