'Threw innerwear on face, made her drink urine'; serious allegations surface in Athulya's death

KOLLAM: A friend of Athulya, who was found hanging in her apartment in Sharjah, made shocking allegations against Satheesh Shankar, Athulya’s husband. According to the friend, Athulya had confessed to her about the brutal torture she endured, which included being forced to drink urine and innerwear thrown on her face.

“She should have committed suicide long ago, considering the torture she went through. But I'm left in shock as Athulya decided to end her life when she looked happy and jubilant. During the last days, she was very happy. Satheesh had a rogue mind and treated her not like a wife but a slave. She was assigned the task of preparing meals three times a day and even had to tie his shoelaces.

Upon returning, he will throw his used innerwear on her face and often make her drink his urine. She had confessed this to me. Athulya even faced torture and humiliation for giving birth to a daughter. However, for her, the daughter was her world. Satheesh never allowed her to go out and often left for work after locking the doors. After many issues, Athulya went back home, and it was after pleading with her father that Satheesh somehow convinced her to come back with him," said Athulya's friend.

Relatives stated that Satheesh, who works as an engineer at a construction company in Dubai, had a heated argument with Athulya the night before her death. He reportedly left for Ajman with friends and returned around 4 a.m. to find her dead. The family confirmed that Satheesh had issues with alcohol abuse and regularly subjected Athulya to physical violence. A complaint had also been lodged with Sharjah Police.

Satheesh, who had been working in the UAE for several years, brought Athulya to the country about a year and a half ago. The couple initially lived in Dubai before moving to Sharjah. Athulya was a native of Thekkumbhagam in Kollam.
