THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Member of Parliament and CPM leader AA Rahim came to writer Akhil P Dharmajan's shield over the bitter criticism the latter was subjected to after winning this year’s Sahitya Akademi’s Yuva Puraskar.
Bashing away all the vitriolic hate, Rahim termed Akhil’s Yuva Puraskar-winning book ‘Ram c/o Anandhi' as a touching piece of writing. Rahim said that the novel had moments and characters that could haunt readers for days.
AA RAHIM:
“He guides us through the busy, narrow streets of Chennai and the crowded compartments of the suburban train. There is a scene where Malli goes to buy a bullet for her brother and surprises him. Those moments are worth mentioning and touch our hearts.
Ram, who portrays the solitary struggle for survival of a youngster, tells the story of ordinary people and shows the little-known human side of the trans community. This is an accomplishment and by all margin praiseworthy material.
Meanwhile, Akhil came under attack even from prominent names in the literary domain. ‘Ram c/o Anandhi', which revolves around Chennai, has crossed fifty editions and sold more than three lakh copies.
Many termed Akhil’s writing quality as pulp and not worth winning the Kendra Yuva Puraskar. At the same time, Akhil responded to the criticism in his pragmatic best.
Akhil:
"I have no affiliation with any party. I will continue to write in my way. I will raise the standard through writing. I am happy to receive the praise from eminent writers, G R Indugopan and S Harish,"
