KOZHIKODE: Two including a baby died while undergoing treatment for amoebic encephalitis. Three-month-old baby, son of Aboobacker Siddique of Omassery died today while undergoing treatment for the disease for the past 28 days. The doctors had earlier hinted that the condition of the baby, who was undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit at Kozhikode Medical College, was critical.
Meantime, a 52-year-old woman who was undergoing treatment at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital for brain-eating amoeba also died. Ramla, a housewife of Kappil in Malappuram, died Sunday morning. She had been undergoing treatment at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital after her condition worsened. When she was about to be discharged after recovering from the disease, she developed fever and vomiting on August 26 and passed away the other day. Her body has been handed over to her relatives. She was laid to rest.
Ramla contracted the disease from a pond near her house. The panchayat had confirmed the presence of amoeba in this pond. The panchayat authorities had then warned people not to enter the water bodies.
