KOLLAM: A tragic incident occurred at the Muttara Maruthimala hills, an ecotourism centre in Kollam district, when two schoolgirls fell from the hill on Friday evening. One girl lost her life, while the other sustained serious injuries. The deceased has been identified as Meenu, a Class 9 student from Adoor. Her friend, Sivarna, also a Class 9 student from Adoor, suffered severe injuries and has been admitted to a private medical college in Kollam for treatment. Both the girls were classmates at Thrichendamangalam G.V.H.S.S., Peringanad, Adoor.

According to reports, the incident took place around 6.30 p.m. Locals had earlier seen the girls moving toward a dangerous section of the hill. A short while later, both were found lying at the base of the slope. The Pooyappally police have registered a case and launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the fall, including whether it was an accidental slip or a deliberate act.

Since there was a school arts festival yesterday, both girls left their homes in the morning wearing casual clothes. When the girls didn’t return home on time, the families inquired with their classmates, but they said they hadn’t seen them. The parents then went to the Adoor police station, where they were informed about the incident. Meenu’s body is now kept at the mortuary of a private medical college hospital in Meeyannoor.
