KOTTAYAM: Two tourists from Maharashtra were killed after a car lost control and plunged into a river in Kottayam. The accident took place at Kaippuzhamuttu in Kumarakom, Kottayam. Police have found the Aadhaar card of a 27-year-old woman in the car.

There is also suspicion that a child might have been present in the car. The incident occurred around 8:45 pm on Thursday. According to police, the preliminary assessment indicates that the accident occurred due to the driver losing control of the vehicle.

The car, which came from Kottayam, was travelling on the service road on the left side of the Kaippuzha Bridge when it fell into the river. The car had completely drowned in the water by the time people rushed to the spot after hearing cries for help from inside the car. Following this, the Fire Force arrived at the spot and retrieved the car from the river. Although the two people were rushed to the Medical College Hospital, they died while undergoing treatment.

Police are conducting an investigation into the accident. The car involved in the accident was rented from Ernakulam.
