Two women killed, 30 injured after elephants run amok at Manakulangara temple festival

KOZHIKODE: Two women were killed after elephants brought for a temple festival in Manakulangara, Koyilandy went berserk on Thursday evening. Leela and Ammukutty died after getting trampled by the tuskers. More than 30 people who came to attend the festival suffered injuries in the chaos. Five among them are said to be in critical condition. The injured were shifted to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital and nearby hospitals.

One of the tuskers brought for the festival went berserk right after the fireworks in the temple. The elephant went straight and stabbed another tusker standing nearby. A havoc ensued after both elephants ran amok amidst the devotees present in the temple.

As per the latest reports, both the elephants have been tamed. It was tuskers Peethambaran and Gokul, that went berserk killing two in the run.
