UDF’s decisive move in Ambalappuzha, support for G Sudhakaran, not to field candidate 

ALAPPUZHA: The UDF have announced their support to former minister G Sudhakaran, who is contesting as an independent candidate after snapping ties with the CPM. The UDF will not field a candidate in Ambalappuzha and instead announced their support. H Salaam is the LDF candidate in Ambalappuzha.

The insulting and disturbing behavior of some in the party led Sudhakaran to take the decision to contest. Sudhakaran contesting as an independent in Ambalapuzha is a setback for the LDF and the CPM.

Although Sudhakaran had spoken to Congress leaders after leaving CPM, the UDF had not announced its support in Ambalapuzha at that time. Support for Sudhakaran was under discussion among UDF leaders in the past few days. The leaders also held discussions with Sudhakaran. The support in Ambalapuzha became public when Sudhakaran also agreed to accept their support. However, the CPM is unleashing widespread criticism against Sudhakaran in Ambalapuzha.

Meantime, G Sudhakaran had shared the question on social media yesterday whether such a big uproar was needed to confront him as an independent. This was in a post written about the protest demonstration and political clarification meeting held by the CPM Ambalapuzha Area Committee against Sudhakaran, who had announced his candidacy as an independent. The half-kilometer demonstration and the public meeting that followed were met with violent threats.

The opponents of the organizers claimed that 700 people participated and the supporters claimed that up to 2000 people were there. There were 1200 people actually. However, not even half of the party members in the Ambalapuzha assembly constituency participated. How many people participated? It was announced that the demonstration would be of 5000 people. Is such a big commotion needed to confront him? District Secretary R Nassar was initially a KSU member when he was in college. He joined SFI when he came to college. Sudhakaran mocked that Nassar had announced to handle him.
