KANNUR: A woman bystander was bitten by a viper snake in Taliparamba Taluk hospital. Chemperi native Latha (55) was thus moved to Pariyaram medical college for better treatment. She was sleeping on the floor of the pay ward when the reptile sneaked towards her.

The incident happened yesterday at 12 am midnight. Latha came to accompany her pregnant daughter to the hospital. Bystanders are allowed to sit in the pay ward if provided rent. Latha was sleeping when she felt the pain of a strike on her legs. A suddenly woken Latha saw the snake and discerned the incident. It proved crucial since she was shifted to Pariyaram medical college and the timely treatment provided helped her come out of danger.

Meanwhile, the other people and bystanders near the hospital killed the venomous viper. It is assumed that the snake might have wiggled in through open windows or doors nearby.
