KOCHI: Police have registered a case against the cyber attacks and defamation campaigns targeting CPM leader K.J. Shine. The case was registered by the Ernakulam Rural Cyber Police based on a complaint filed by Shine. The case has been filed under sections of the IT Act for insulting the modesty of a woman. The complaint is against a leading daily, five pro-Congress web portals, YouTube channels and various social media accounts.
Shine had earlier filed a complaint with the Chief Minister, the State Police Chief and the Women's Commission. Following this, a police team went to Shine's house in Paravur and recorded her statement. Shine handed over evidence, including links and screenshots of the defamatory posts, to the police. Shine and her family alleged that a Congress worker from Paravur had started the campaign. However, the Congress worker denied the allegations, stating that he had not mentioned anyone's name and had only shared a YouTube video link.
Meanwhile, Shine and her husband Dyneus Thomas alleged that an attempt was being made to divert attention from the Rahul Mamkootathil issue. They alleged that Paravur MLA V.D. Satheesan was behind such campaigns and that nothing would happen without his knowledge. However, Satheesan and DCC President Mohammed Shiyas dismissed these allegations.
The Congress leadership's stance is that such issues are coming to light due to internal issues within the CPM. Mohammed Shiyas said that such allegations are the result of power struggles within the CPM and that the opposition leader is being dragged into this simply because he is a representative of the people.
