Viral birthday celebration inside Kannur police headquarters; case registered against five amid embarrassment

KANNUR: A case was filed against five people for conducting a birthday party inside the city police headquarters in Kannur. The decision was taken after the video of the celebration went viral on social media. The video of the birthday celebration was shared on social media on September 16.

It is said that the birthday plan was prepared by the friends of the young woman. They dialled her on the pretext of calling from the police headquarters and ordered her to reach the office at the earliest. The surprise was out when she reached the headquarters. The cake cutting and celebration took place in a plot adjacent to the canteen of the city police headquarters.

The officials say they were totally unaware of the incident and received their first shock only when the video went viral. It is reported that the group entered the compound masquerading as police officers. They organised a birthday party, filmed it and circulated it on social media. The FIR stated that the incident had tarnished the reputation of the state police force.
