Vital findings against Suresh Gopi; apart from dual votes, minister’s brother and sister-in-law possess two voter ID cards

THRISSUR: The opposition has found vital findings against Union Minister Suresh Gopi in the voters list controversy in Thrissur. They have decided to conduct a probe on their own. The new finding is that Suresh Gopi's brother Subhash Gopi and his wife Rani not only have dual votes but also possess two voter identity cards. Subhash Gopi's vote in the Eravipuram assembly constituency in Kollam is registered under the identity card number WLS 0136077. His wife Rani's vote is registered under the identity card number WLS 0136218. They also had votes in Thrissur.


In Thrissur, Subhash's name is registered as voter number 1219 in the list at booth number 115 in Mukkattukara with the identity card number FVM 1397173 and his wife Rani's name is registered as voter number 1218 with the identity card number FVM 1397181. Both of them currently have votes in the local body elections in Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram Corporations. It was earlier reported that they are not permanent residents of Thrissur.


A person can only use one identify card of election commission legally. If a second card is obtained, one card must be surrendered and cancelled immediately. Using dual cards is a criminal offense. A second identity card can only be obtained by providing false information. Providing false information is a criminal offense. One can be imprisoned for one to seven years and fined.
