Vocational training in schools for employment opportunities; inauguration on 19th

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister V Sivankutty said in a press conference that vocational training will be started in schools to ensure employment opportunities for children in the future. The first phase will start with 14 centres. The course is free.

It is part of the central project Strengthening Teaching Learning Results for States (STARS). The inauguration will be held on the 19th at 5 pm at Kamleswaram Higher Secondary School.

Two courses in each centre. 25 candidates will be admitted in each batch. Students who have completed 10th standard, children from tribal areas, those studying through open schools, differently abled, those studying in higher secondary/vocational higher secondary, and those who have completed Plus Two will be admitted.

The age limit is 23 years and the duration is one year. Upper age relaxation for SC/ ST students is two years and for differently abled children is five years.

236 centres have been allotted under the STARS scheme. 21.5 lakhs have been allocated for each centre. 50.74 crore has been sanctioned for this, the minister informed.
