Warships, submarines lined up in Shankumugham; Indian Navy's 'spectacle' in Thiruvananthapuram

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Naval exercises as part of the Navy Day celebrations have begun at Shankumugham. More than 40 warships, including 19 major warships, a submarine and 32 fighter aircraft, are participating in the exercises.

President Droupadi Murmu inspected the guard of honour at 4.30 pm, and the exercises began at 5.13 pm.

The demonstration with the Submarine will take place soon. There will also be a MiG-29 fighter jet (Black Panther) exercise. Methods of rescuing those in danger at sea will also be displayed as part of the celebrations.

Entry is arranged for 9,000 people through passes. About one lakh people will see the exercise from the coastal terrain of Thiruvananthapuram. The President will leave the venue for Lok Bhavan at 6.57 pm. Air services have been restricted today.

Traffic arrangements are in place in Thiruvananthapuram today. Ahead of the celebrations, the Navy also conducted training exercises at Shankhumugham Beach. This day is celebrated as Navy Day in memory of Operation Trident conducted by the Indian Navy in Karachi on December 4, 1971. Last year, the celebrations were held at Puri Beach in Odisha.
