KALPETTA: Wayanad DCC President N D Appachan has resigned amidst severe factionalism in the district. Appachan told media that it is true that he had expressed his willingness to resign and rest of the matters should be decided by the party. He refused to respond more on the issue.
There has been a lot of group squabbles in Wayanad DCC for the past few days. The death of former DCC treasurer N M Vijayan and the problems that occurred later have put the Congress in a crisis. In the wake of such uproar and considering his age, there were speculations that Appachan would be removed from the post of DCC president during reorganization.
Appachan had recently given an interview to an English media. When asked about Priyanka Gandhi's visit, he said that he was not aware of it and that the MP's office decides things. Reports said the high command was dissatisfied over it.
Appachan was beaten during a previous Congress meeting. He was manhandled at the Mullenkolly Congress Development Committee meet. The attack was a result of a group dispute over the post of Congress constituency president at a meeting held on top of the Mullenkolly Co-Operative Bank in Padichira.
