KANNUR: CPM Central Committee member P K Sreemathy responded to the incident in which a woman committed suicide following moral policing at Parambayi in Kayalode, Pinarayi. While talking to a media, Sreemathy said what happened is Talibanism and that some people think that Muslim women should not talk to a man other than their husbands.
This is an incident that reveals the horror of terrorist activities. Sreemathy clarified that although it is a suicide, what happened is a mob murder, and the girl was humiliated in front of a crowd like Panchali Vastrakshepam. She added that all behind the incident should be arrested.
Three SDPI activists arrested in the incident have been remanded. There are hints that two are in police custody. Rasina (40) was found hanging inside her house in Rasina Manzil, Parambayi on Tuesday. The arrested were V C Mubasheer (28) from Parambayi M C Manzil, K A Faizal (34) from Kaniyante Valappil and V K Rafzan (24) from Koodathankandi House.
A five-member team approached Rasina while she was talking to her male friend on June 15 evening near Achankara Church at Kayalode. After sending her home, the team assaulted her male friend and took him to the SDPI office after confiscating his mobile phone and tab. He was released after calling his relatives at midnight.
They had summoned Rasina’s relatives also. They also tainted her on social media. The police have recovered the phone and tab seized. She is daughter of A Muhammed and C K Fathima of Parambayi. Her husband, M K Rafi, is working abroad and has three children.
A suicide note found on Rasina's clothes mentioned the names of the accused and about the moral policing. The accused were arrested following an investigation conducted by Pinarayi Station inspector N Ajeesh Kumar.
