THRISSUR: KPCC political affairs committee member T N Prathapan has filed a complaint against Union Minister Suresh Gopi. Prathapan has filed a complaint with the Thrissur City Police Commissioner, alleging that Suresh Gopi's inclusion of votes to Thrissur just before the last Lok Sabha elections was illegal and a criminal conspiracy. The complaint states that Suresh Gopi, a permanent resident of Thiruvananthapuram, included his vote in Thrissur constituency through illegal means and by producing false affidavits.
The vote was included in booth number 115 of Thrissur assembly constituency. According to the Representation of the People Act, only a permanent resident can include his vote at that booth. For decades, Suresh Gopi and his family have been permanent residents of house number 22/1788 in the Sasthamangalam division of the Thiruvananthapuram assembly constituency. Suresh Gopi last included his vote at booth number 115 just before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
While including vote, a document of permanent resident and an affidavit must be submitted. This has proved that the affidavit and document given by Suresh Gopi, a permanent resident of Sasthamangalam division, in Thrissur are not true. Suresh Gopi made a false statement in Thrissur. In the same way, votes of eleven including Suresh Gopi and his brother, were included in this way in the same address. What Suresh Gopi and his family did is a criminal offense under the Indian Penal Code. The complaint has also said that a case should be registered in this regard and a detailed investigation should be conducted.
