Wild elephant dies after falling into well in populated area in Kodanad; locals stage protest

KOCHI: A wild elephant died after falling into a well belonging to a private individual in Nedumbara in Kodanad. The incident happened at around 3 am today. The female elephant fell into a well in the backyard of a person named Mullassery Thankan. The locals are protesting after the elephant died after falling into the well. They are claiming that they will not allow the elephant to be removed until the Malayattoor DFO arrives.

The locals allege that the forest department is not taking action to drive away the wild elephants enter the residential area. The elephant fell into a deep well. This is a well that is used for agricultural purposes. Benny Behanan MP has reached the spot.

The people of Kodanad had earlier organized a protest seeking a solution to the elephant nuisance in the region.
