Woman jumps into well in Kollam, three including fire force official killed

KOLLAM: Three including a fire force official was killed while trying to save a woman, who jumped into a well at Neduvathoor in the district. The incident happened Monday early morning. The accident occurred when the handrail of an 80-foot-deep well collapsed. The victims have been identified as Archana (33) of Neduvathoor, who jumped into the well, her friend Sivakrishnan (22) and Soni S Kumar (36) of Attingal and an employee of the fire force unit in Kottarakkara, who tried to save her.

The fire force got a call early morning informing that Archana had jumped into the 80-foot-deep well. When the fire force reached there, Archana’s two children took them near the well saying that their mother is lying in the well.

In order to bring her out of the well, Soni with the help of a rope and other items entered the well. When pulling her to the top, the handrail of the well collapsed and fell on top of them. Sivakrishnan, who was standing near the handrail also met with the accident. As the well was very deep, stones and mud fell over them. The three bodies were taken out after a long effort. The three were taken to the hospital but by then they had lost their lives. Archana has three children.
