THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Veena George has been severely criticized in the comments under the Facebook post of former health minister K K Shailaja paying tributes to Bindu, who died in the building collapse in Kottayam Medical College. Some have commented that if K K Shailaja had been the health minister, the situation would not have arisen.
‘Shailaja Teacher, if you were the best health minister Kerala has ever seen, the one sitting in that chair today is the worst health minister Kerala has ever seen,' one commented. 'If you had been there comrade.., Teacher, the health sector was beautiful when you were there. But now the situation is unbearable, if you had been the minister... Tributes to Bindu, no matter what you say, the health sector in Kerala today is not the same as when K K Shailaja was the health minister. It is like a situation where there is no one to control, and many people should realize that ministerial work is not like media work,' comments said.
Many criticized Veena George for not visiting the house of Bindu, who died in the tragedy. ‘The health minister, who took plane ticket to go to Kuwait for rescue operations when there was a fire, has not yet visited the house of Bindu, who died in Kottayam, what is this?" said one of the comments.
Shailaja’s FB post
Deeply saddened and paying tributes to Bindu, who died after a building collapsed at Kottayam Medical College.
The government will take the responsibility to protect the family of Bindu, who was supporting her family with a very meager income. A decision has also been taken to conduct Bindu's daughter's operation on time at the medical college.
Kottayam Medical College has made tremendous progress during the LDF regime. A master plan was prepared in 2018 to replace the now collapsed building and funds were obtained through KIIFB. The construction work was hampered due to the Covid pandemic, but the construction has now been completed. When the decision was taken to shift the patients to the new building, this painful incident happened.
Medical College Superintendent Dr Jayakumar took the initiative for all the developments that happened in the college. People should realize that the doctor who worked tirelessly for heart surgery and saved thousands of lives and the achievements of the health department are being deliberately disrespected.
Bindu's death is extremely painful. We pay our respects and request the government to take steps to protect her family.
