THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: K B Ganesh Kumar MLA came to the fore reacting to the incident of Dr Shehna, a PG student of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, who committed suicide after her marriage was cancelled over dowry. The MLA said the ideals of Dr Ruwais, responsible for her death, was not followed in his own life. He added that no mercy should be shown to the person, who ruined the life of a bright girl, who got admission on merit.
'Such worms, evil ones, how that girl would have wished for a marriage. That marriage was called off due to money. How much pain she would have suffered. Isn't he working in Thiruvananthapuram? He gave her hope and finally ditched her. She may have dreamt a lot once the marriage was fixed. When he finally backed out of the marriage shamelessly for money, she may have not been able to bear it.
'You can never blame that girl. A girl who gave priority to studies in her life, dreamt of marriage. Wished to happen. Destroyed everything for money. Where will he keep the gold of 1.5 kilos? This much gold will not be in the bank where we pledge. Can an ordinary person be able to give so much, asked Ganesh Kumar.
The complaint is against Dr Ruwais, who is behind her death. The initial conclusion is that he had promised to marry her and then ditched her in the name of dowry and this forced her to take the extreme step. The remand report submitted by medical college police inspector P Harilal said there is clear evidence including the suicide note and WhatsApp chats.
Section 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act (IPC 306) and Section 4 of the Abetment to Suicide Act have been charged. An investigation has been started on the role of Ruwais' family in the incident. Dr Shehna was found dead in her rented flat on Monday night. The suicide note mentioning Ruwais' name shows the accused greed for dowry.
After detailed interrogation, the arrest was recorded at 11.30 am yesterday. He cooperated with the questioning in the beginning but when asked about the details of the suicide note, he kept mum. Though seized his phone and examined it, most of the chats were found deleted after Shehna's death. The phone was produced in the court. The WhatsApp messages sent to Ruwais from her mobile phone still exist.
