THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Senior leader and former minister Thomas Isaac has suggested corrections to the CPM leadership. In an interview to a private YouTube channel, he said that leaders should interact with people with an open mind and be ready to correct what needs to be corrected and move forward.
"A section of CPM supporters voted against the party in the last election. There needs to be a debate with the public to understand why. It should be investigated whether it is dissatisfaction with the style of party workers, anger at allegations of corruption, displeasure with the activities of the government, or anger at not getting due benefits.
Majority of CPM's voters are common people who are economically backward. It should be asked why they changed their mind. The leadership should be ready to listen to the people even when the reasons for defeat are discussed within the party. Interventions on social media are needed but there are some undesirable trends. What we are trying to say to someone will have the opposite effect when we use some expressions on social media to distance them from the party," he pointed out.
