Independent Jose Chellappan supports: UDF set to form Alappuzha municipal council

ALAPPUZHA: UDF will rule Alappuzha Municipality. After days of uncertainty, UDF secured the governance of the municipality after the conditional support of independent Jose Chellappan, who won from Mangalam ward. Former municipal president Thomas Joseph welcomed Jose Chellappan by donning him with a shawl.

The party composition is as follows in the 53-member municipality: UDF-23, LDF-22, BJP-5, Independent-1, SDPI-1, PDP-1.

The Independent's stance was crucial since no one had an absolute majority. Jose Chellappan said that the UDF has assured him that it would accept the development plan he had put forward, and that his support was conditional. Jose Chellappan said that he would vote in favour of the UDF in the Chairperson and vice-Chairperson elections to be held on the 26th.
