KANNUR: LDF wins five wards before the local body elections begin. The LDF won unopposed in five seats in the Anthoor Municipality. The five seats were won after the nominations of two UDF candidates were rejected today and one candidate withdrew. UDF had no candidates in two wards earlier itself.

Following the completion of the inspection of the four wards where the dispute was ongoing, the nominations of the UDF candidates in two wards were accepted, while those in two other wards were rejected. The nominations of UDF candidates in Thaliyil and Kodallur wards were rejected. With this, the LDF became unopposed in Morazha, Podikkundu, Kodallur, Thaliyil and Anchampeedika wards.

K Livya, the candidate in Ward 26, whom the UDF accused of being kidnapped, has withdrawn from the candidacy. Livya had submitted a letter stating this. Livya reached the municipality office today and announced that she will withdraw from the candidacy. The LDF had no opposition in six wards in the last local body elections. There was no opposition in 14 wards in the 2015 elections.
