ALAPPUZHA: The government will provide Rs 75,000 to renovate a kitchen that is dilapidated and does not have adequate facilities. This amount does not have to be repaid. The 'Easy Kitchen' scheme is implemented by the LSG department.

The LSG department has suggested that panchayats, municipalities and corporations allocate money for the scheme. It is a joint partnership of village, block and district panchayats in panchayat areas. The number of kitchens can be decided according to the funds.

Those in the general category whose annual income does not exceed Rs 2 lakh and those in the Scheduled Caste category whose annual income does not exceed Rs 3 lakh are eligible for the scheme. There is no income limit for the Scheduled Tribes. No financial assistance will be available for houses received under housing schemes, including LIFE. Those with good kitchens will not get this amount to recondition them. The money for the kitchen cannot be used for other purposes.
