KOZHIKODE: Should you throw stones at stray dogs when they run towards you?... Or should you run away?... You don't need both; if you have the 'electronic stick' invented by Abhishek, Nihal and Sadin Mohammed Subair, class 10 students of Vadassery GHSS, Areekode. Their idea of 'electronic stick' has received national recognition in the School Innovation Marathon of the Ministry of National Education.

The research of these child scientists was conducted under the supervision of K. Pragith, a physics teacher from Chelannur. Out of more than one lakh children's ideas, 27 were recognized at the national level. They were also the only government school to represent Kerala. With the national recognition, a scholarship of Rs. 50,000 will be given. Patent submission, entrepreneurship and financial assistance will also be provided for the production of a prototype of the electronic stick.

This is how it works: An ultrasonic sound will come out from the stick equipped with an electronic circuit. Animals will recognise this sound, which humans cannot hear. This will be unpleasant for stray dogs. The electronic stick works by sending a small electric shock, a bright light, and an odor that is unpleasant for the animals.
