The gruelling summer, load shedding and rising snakebite cases have left Kerala in panic mode. The increasing heat is said to have resulted in snakes coming out of their burrows and snuggling unnoticed in human habitats.

Snakes always wriggle out in the dark to hunt. They often find abodes in shrubs and footwear. People unknowingly set foot on the reptiles and buy the poison. Three tricks would be sufficient to find where the snakes are hiding in the dark.

Carrying a touch while getting out would be the most effortless way to locate the reptiles.

Carry a stick: Walking with a stick has its perks. When walking outside in the dark and the light is low, use a long stick to poke the ground. When you poke the ground, reptiles such as snakes will think it is a sign of danger and move away.

Wear shoes or boots: Snakes are more likely to lurk in grassy or other rural areas at night. More caution is needed in villages than in cities. Those who go out during this time should at least wear large boots or shoes. Wearing simple slippers would increase the chances of a snakebite.

The three hacks can help anyone to a large extent. Instead of trying old medical practices on a victim, put all effort into rushing the person to the hospital at the earliest.
