THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Following the order of the Kerala Administrative Tribunal, the Department of General Education has issued an order to downgrade 16 senior Malayalam teaching posts in the higher secondary category to junior positions. These are the posts created for new higher secondary schools and new batches during 2014-16. Senior posts were created then as more periods were required. However, the administrative tribunal quashed the government order on a complaint filed by the candidates against the elimination of junior posts, which is followed by the action of the Department of General Education. Higher Secondary School Teachers' Association general secretary Anil M George demanded that the government's decision be reversed citing technical reasons.
"Senior posts are created based on the number of children and periods. The government is looking for a shortcut instead of obtaining a favourable order by appealing against the order of the tribunal", he alleged.
