THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Human Rights Commission has asked the municipal secretary to submit a report within two weeks regarding the obstruction of the freedom of movement of the people due to the endless construction of smart roads in the capital city. It was Commission Acting Chairperson and Judicial Member K. Baijunath who gave the instructions to the municipal secretary. With the rains, the journey has become difficult. The case will be heard in June.

The family members have to jump over large pits to get out. It has been months since many have taken their car from home. The construction stopped when the rains started. 80 roads in the city are being made smart. 273 crores to upgrade the roads. The roads in the areas where schools and colleges are functioning were demolished. After it rained the other day, the pits were filled with water. Upgradation of 28 roads is yet to be completed. Lack of proper planning is the cause of the crisis. Although the public works manual states that the board should be established when the construction has started and when it will be completed, it has not been implemented. The action was taken in a case voluntarily registered by the Commission based on an editorial published by newspaper.
