India to overtake China within two months; Center's official confirmation will be delayed on India becoming most populous country in the world

Reuters has predicted that India will overtake China on April 14. The report is based on population projections including those of the United Nations.

According to Reuters, India's population will reach 142 crores on April 14, 2023. But India will be late to officially confirm this. They explain that they will have to wait till the next census for confirmation of this. The central government has not yet clarified when the census, which has been stalled in the wake of Covid, will start. India is leading the way because China's population has been declining for several years. India saw a small increase over the same period, with a growth of around 1% a year, according to Reuters.
