60-year-old operated on right leg instead of left, doctor knew the blunder only when patient pointed it out; incident happened in Kozhikode

KOZHIKODE: At Kozhikode National Hospital, a private hospital, the housewife underwent surgery on her wrong leg yesterday. The surgery was performed on the right leg instead of the injured left leg. The doctor noticed this when the patient told him after the surgery.

Relatives stated that the doctor admitted his mistake. Dr. Bahirshan, who is also the head of ortho department at the hospital, made such a serious mistake. A 60-year-old woman from Kakkodi, Kozhikode underwent surgery. They are being treated by the same doctor for more than a year. The doctor has not yet given an explanation for the medical error.
