Shop sells foul-smelling meat to police officer; 8 kg stale meat seized during inspection

KOCHI: A shop selling stale meat was closed after the inspection by the health department. The corporation's health department closed down the meat shop of Salam, a resident of Aluva, which was operating without a license in Nettoor. Stale beef was also seized from here. The action was taken after a police officer lodged a complaint that he was given stale and smelly meat.

The meat was sold in a shop covered with iron sheets. When a police officer who bought the beef from this shop came home, he noticed a foul smell coming from it. After this, when he came to the shop and raised a complaint, the shopkeeper said that he would replace the meat. Then a complaint was lodged with the health department.

During the inspection by the officials of the health department, stale meat was seized from the shop. 8 kg of seized meat was buried and the shop was closed. But many people had already bought meat from the shop. It is reported that around 13 kg of meat was sold from here. The corporation has warned not to use the meat bought from here as it is not edible.
