THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The IMA-supported doctor's protest in the state took a heavy toll on the many ailing patients who reached hospitals unknowing of the protest on Friday. The medical colleges never gave OP tickets for consultations and the private hospitals followed suit. Only emergency surgeries were conducted inside both hospitals.
The protest is towards the recurring incidents of attacks and manhandling of doctors in the state. In Fathima hospital Kozhikode, a senior doctor was beaten by relatives of a patient citing negligence on the doctor's side. The doctors complained to the police and the minister but received a tepid response. This triggered a protest from the community with the backing of the Indian Medical Association.
