THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Three natives of Tripura were arrested for duping a woman of lakhs on the pretext of marriage. They got acquainted with the woman via a matrimonial site. The woman is a native of the capital city. The Thiruvananthapuram city cybercrime police arrested Kumar Jamatia (36), Sanjit Jamatia (40) and Suraj Debbarma (27) from Teliamura in Tripura. Sanjit made false promises of marrying her posing as a doctor of world heath organization.
They created a strong bond with her through WhatsApp and then extorted an amount of Rs 22,75,000 from her through various bank accounts in the name of starting a business abroad. They invite marriage proposals via matrimonial sites and collect details of women and then get acquainted with them via social media and cheat them. The accused used fake Facebook accounts and WhatsApp. A team led by ACP Karunakaran arrested them from Tripura following various complaints lodged with the cybercrime police station.
