Sachin- no. 10, Dhoni- no. 7, Dravid- no. 5; But why Kohli no.18?

Virat Kohli is a phenomenon. He has trudged a difficult path and has struck career-defining knocks that made him what he is today— an indispensable part of Indian cricket. However, the cricketer imbued many things from his predecessors but not the routine ways of adopting high-value jersey numbers. Sachin sported no 10 jersey, Dhoni made no 7 legendary, Ganguly was unique with no 99, and Rahul Dravid carved a wall with no 5. But have you ever thought why Kohli never went behind such fancies but adopted no 18 from the very start?

Starting from the 2008 under-19 world cup, Kohli adorned a no 18 and it has not changed to date. On 2006, December 18, Kohli was just 17 years old when news came about the passing of his father. Heartbroken, Kohili crept into solitude when a call came out of the blue. It was a Ranji call-up for the young batsmen to appear the very next day in a match against Karnataka. Kohli talked with his mother and decided to chase what his father asked him to. Kohli scripted history with a decisive 90 runs which made Delhi triumph over Karnataka. It was a tough decision to play and was the 18th of December. The day got etched into his mind, a day in which he was recognized as a prodigy.
