THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kozhikode was named first among the district panchayats and Thiruvananthapuram among the Corporations for the Ardra Keralam award for the local institutions that have done excellent work in the health sector. Ernakulam's Piravom was named the best municipality, Mulanthurutthi in Ernakulam came first among block panchayats and Chenneerkkara in Pathanamthitta is the grama panchayat that came first. The first prize is Rs 10 lakh. The award is given on the basis of the amount spent by the local bodies in the health sector, palliative care programmes, Kayakalpa and other health related activities, immunization, ward level activities and other preventive activities, innovative ideas implemented and waste management in public places.
