Person sets fire inside running train after pouring kerosene on woman, nine suffer burns

KOZHIKODE: In a shocking incident, a person pour kerosene on a woman inside a running train and set her on fire. Nine people were injured in the fire. The incident took place on Sunday night around 9.05 pm when the Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express reached the Korapuzha Bridge near Elathur.

The incident took place after a fight broke out between three passengers in the D1 coach of the train.The railway police and fire force have admitted the injured to the Kozhikode Medical College. The seriously injured passenger named Prince is in Baby Memorial Hospital. Anil Kumar, a native of Thalassery, his wife Sajisha, son Advaith, Thaliparambu native Ruby, and Thrissur native Aswathy were also injured.

Locals said that the person who started the fire escaped after passengers pulled the chain to stop the train. According to the eyewitness, the assailant had two bottles of kerosene, wore a red cap and shirt.

City police commissioner Rajpal Meena said the police have begun the search for the accused. The train was shifted to Koyilandi station.
