Umpire killed over ‘No ball’ decision; accused arrested

BHUBANESWAR: In a tragic incident, an umpire has been stabbed to death during a cricket match in Cuttack. Lucky Rawat (22) lost his life following a brawl after he signaled a ‘No ball’. Irked over the decision, Smrithi Ranjan stabbed Rawat who died on the spot. The accused tried to flee after the incident but players and spectators cornered him and handed over to the police.


The match was played between two teams from Brahmapur and Shankarpur. Tension prevailed in the area following the death of Rawat. Police have initiated an inquiry.
