LUCKNOW: Asad Ahmed, son of gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed, was killed in an encounter by Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force. It is reported that Atiq Ahmed's accomplice Muhammad Ghulam was also killed. Both were wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case and has been absconding since then. The police had announced Rs 5 lakh reward for anyone providing information about them. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya praised the Uttar Pradesh STF who killed the accused in the encounter.
The police found Asad's hideout following a tip-off from an informer in his gang. The police informed that the operation was conducted by a team of 12 persons led by two DSP rank officers. The incident took place on Babina Road in Jhansi. This encounter took place on the day when Atiq Ahmed was produced in the court in Umesh's murder and taken to judicial custody for 14 days.
The police officers were also injured in the encounter. UPSTF said that they tried to capture Asad alive but he attacked the police. Foreign-made guns were also seized from Asad.
District panchayat member Umesh Pal Singh was a witness in the murder case of BSP MLA Raju Pal. He was shot dead outside his house in Prayagraj on February 24.
