THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The court found clinical psychologist Dr K Girish (59) guilty of sexually assaulting a minor boy multiple times when the latter approached him for counselling. Thiruvananthapuram Special Fast Track Court judge Sudarshan found the accused guilty. The punishment will be announced on Thursday. The accused was remanded.
A year ago, the same court had sentenced the accused to six years of rigorous imprisonment in the POCSO case for assaulting a minor boy. The accused had obtained bail from the High Court in this case.
Dr Girish was an assistant professor in Health department and ran a private counselling centre near his home. As per the case, he sexually assaulted the boy here.
He was assaulted between December 6, 2015 and February 21, 2017 when he came for counselling. The boy’s mental condition worsened after the abuse. Girish then asked them to consult other doctors. The accused also threatened the boy not to reveal this to anyone.
The family consulted many other doctors, but the boy’s condition remained the same, so in 2019, the boy was admitted to the Psychiatry Department of the Medical College Hospital. Then the boy revealed to the doctors about Girish’s abuse. He also said that the accused used to show obscene videos on his phone. The Fort police registered a case and arrested the accused after the hospital authorities informed the police.
