Shine Tom’s words pained me a lot; dropping my surname was a progressive decision, says Samyukta

There was a controversy in connection with actress Samyukta's new Malayalam film 'Boomerang'. The controversy stoked following the producer’s revelation that though he approached Samyukta for the promotion of the film, she failed to turn up. Soon, actor Shine Tom Chacko harshly criticized the actress for her act. The makers of the film expressed displeasure when she did not turn up for the promotional event.

‘Dropping her surname ‘Menon’ does not mean that she should not attend the promotional event. Aren't all names obtained after coming to earth? Be it a Menon, a Nair, a Christian or a Muslim, if some has taken up a job, he or she is obliged to complete it. Only those who have always cooperated have survived. There is no such thing as liking the work done more or less. She did not attend the promotion because of the thought that what she did was bad,' Shine had said then.

The actress has clarified that Shine Tom Chacko's words had pained her a lot. ‘Dropping my surname was a very progressive decision of mine. I felt sad when I heard what he (Shine) said that day. Even when I go to many places now, people call my name with the surname. When I went to Chennai in connection with a film, I felt annoyed when they called my full name. That is why I mentioned in the interview about dropping my surname. Many asked the reason for such a decision. Kerala is a place where everyone thinks forwardly. Questions on dropping my surname makes me sad. I felt very sad when the same issue was raised when was talking another matter,' the actress clarified.
